Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen Cream

This sunscreen formula delivers superior broad-spectrum protection by using microfine Titanium Dioxide, Octinoxate and Avobenzone with the singlet-quenching photostabilizer SolaStay® S1. In vitro testing indicates SPF ~ 55, PFA (PPD) ~ 21. Critical Wavelength = 380 nm.

PREPARATIVE PROCEDURE

1In a secondary vessel, add phase A ingredients and start mixing. Slowly add phase B to A with continued mixing. Begin heating to 80°C.
2Add phase C ingredients, in order, to phase AB. When homogenous, add phase D to ABC and mix until totally dissolved. Add phase E to phase ABCD just before combining phases and mix until fully dispersed.
3To the main vessel, add the water from phase F and dissolve the Disodium EDTA with mixing. Then, add the Pemulen TR-2 and mix until fully incorporated. Continue mixing and begin to heat this phase to 80°C, then add premix phase G to phase F.
4When both phases are homogenous and at temperature, slowly add phase ABCDE to phase FG with strong mixing. Homogenize intensely for 3 minutes and then return to prop mixing and cooling. When batch is lower than 55°C, add phase H and mix well.
5Then, add premix phase I and mix until uniform. Replace water lost and mix until smooth. Perform quality assurance checks.
