Insect Repellent Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Cream

This formulation base utilizes Hallstar’s elegant sunscreen solvent and emollient HallBrite®BHB towards optimizing solvent polarity, to which the triplet state quenching photostabilizer HallBrite®PSF has been added, providing substantial additional photostabilization to the composition. In vivo testing (five subjects) on closelyrelated formula JZ5-69 suggests static SPF ~34, while in vitro testing suggest PFA (PPD) ~12. Critical wavelength = 379nm. This formula also contains andiroba oil, a natural product with documented insect repellent properties, for which insect repellency claims cannot currently be made in the U.S.

1To a secondary vessel, add phase A and start mixing. Add phase B, het to 85°C, and then add phase C individually.
2When AB homogenous, add phase D and mix this oil phase until D is well dissolved
3Add water of phase E to the main vessel, dissolve EDTA with continue mixing and then add Xanthan gum, stirring until fully incorporated.
4Start heating phase E to 80°C and add premix phase F to the water phase with mixing.
5When both phases are homogenous, and at their designated temperature, slowly add the oil phase ABCD to the water phase EF with mixing.
6Start homogenizing and cooling. When the batch reaches 55°C, start sweet mixing and continue cooling. Add simulgel and continue mixing until fully incorporated.
7Add Silica and continue mixing until incorporated. When completely smooth, perform final quality assurance checks.
