French Court Rules in Hallstar’s Favor Against Proscien

Proscien’s Claims that its Products Originate in France Were Found to be Misleading

[JANUARY 8, 2026] Hallstar France is pleased to announce a significant victory based on the court judgment that reflects Hallstar’s ongoing commitment to fair competition and consumer transparency. On November 12, 2025, the Commercial Court of Romans-sur-Isère ruled in favor of Hallstar in a case against Proscien, addressing certain misleading commercial practices of Proscien and the non-compliance of its website with certain French regulations.

The Court ruled that Proscien’s website contained statements that misrepresented the production of its products as originating from Provence, as well as other elements non-compliant with some legal requirements. Specifically, the Court found that Proscien’s claims about product transformation activities in Provence were misleading, as these activities were virtually nonexistent. The judgment also highlighted Proscien’s improper use of certain labels and icons related to quality, specifically as to its COSMOS certification claims, as well as violations of French language obligations and advertising laws in relation to alcoholic beverages. As a result, Proscien has been ordered to bring its website into full compliance with applicable legal regulations, including:

  • Cease the violation of certain Articles of the French Consumer Code relating to unfair commercial practices, including misleading commercial practices,
  • Cease the violation of a certain Article the French Consumer Code relating to the prohibition from using a presentation likely to suggest or create the impression that a product benefits from a protected designation of origin,
  • Cease the violation of French law relating to the use of the French language,
  • Cease the violation of certain Articles of the French Public Health Code relating to direct or indirect advertising in favor of alcoholic beverages.

While the judgment is subject to appeal, Hallstar remains steadfast in its commitment to protect customers and ensure a fair marketplace. At the time of the original lawsuit in July 2024, Chairman John Paro described the underlying motivation for Hallstar’s legal action:

In addition, Hallstar’s affiliates have filed suit in United States Federal District Court in Illinois, USA, against Robert Hu, Proscien and others related to trade secret misappropriation and various other related claims. That case remains pending.
